EXTERNAL APPS allow for deep links to external apps outside of the Capillary app the user is currently in. End users will be taken either directly to the downloaded app on their device or to the corresponding download page on their device’s app-downloading service.

To create an External App content-piece, navigate to the External App section under Content Publishing in the left-hand lefthand navigation menu, then click on the “+ Create External App” button at the top right. In the resulting popup window, name your external app and designate an author. This will bring you to the External App creation screen.

Note: This content-type does not have the typical content-readiness tabs. Instead, each requirement is housed on the static External App creation screen.

The following are suggested, but not required, inputs for publishing external app content:

Icon (512 x 512 px)

To update the icon, click on the “Update” button under “ICON

Details

The Details section is contained in the top bar under the content’s title. Here, you can upload your icon as well as change the content’s title, author, and description.

To upload an icon, click the “Update” button in the Details bar, then click “Choose File.” In the resulting popup window, click the “Choose File” button, then find and select the icon desired image you want from your files, computer’s file library. As always, you can use the cropping Cropping tool to align your image appropriately, and click “Save Icon.” Your icon will now show where the grey camera icon was before.

Category Tags

The External App Category Tags is an optional feature, but it is recommended to add as many category tags as are relevant to help users find the external app content-piece. To add a category tag, click on the empty field in the Category Tags section of the External App creation screen. In the dropdown menu, click the checkbox next to each category you’d like to add. We recommend that you add at least one tag to the external app before publishing.

Note: You can also add an optional description to the external app in this section by typing in the description in the corresponding “Description” text box.

External app content requires the following inputs:

change the size and orientation of your icon. Once you’re satisfied with the icon result, click Save Icon.

To edit the content’s title, author, and description, click on the three dots at the top right of the Details bar and select “Edit Details.”

Tags

To add tags to your content, click into the field in the Category Tags section. This will display a dropdown listing all available categories to tag your content with. To add a tag, click on the radio button to the left of the tag in the dropdown menu. To remove a tag, click the “X” to the left of the tag’s name in that same field.

Builder

The External App builder section is slightly different from other content types in that you’re not selecting or uploading media but adding the relevant links to the external iOS App Store and Google Play Store listings. To add external App Store URLs, simply type or paste the appropriate app links for the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store .

Linked Collections

To link the external app to one or more collections, click on the “Link” button in the Linked Collections section. In the resulting popup window, link the external app to as many collections as you’d like by clicking the blue chainlink icon to the right of the desired collections in the list. in their respective text fields.

Note: To unlink the external app from a previously linked collection, click the red unlink icon to the right of the collection you wish to remove it from.

When you have completed all of the required fields on the External App completion screen, the “Publish” button near the top right will turn green. When you are satisfied with your external app content-piece and ready to publish, click the “Publish” button

Collections

The external app content piece must be linked to at least one collection before it can be published. Clicking the “Link” button in the Linked Collections section will open a popup window displaying the available collections with icons, team ID, and a blue button to link your PDF to that collection. Any collections chosen will populate under Linked Collections, and they can be unlinked by simply clicking the red icon to the right.

Publish

The Publish button is actually located at the top in the Details bar. The Publish button remains grayed out until all requirements to publish have been met. Once all requirements have been met, the Publish button will turn green and allow you to publish your content.

To add external App Store URLs, simply type or paste the appropriate app links for the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
