EXTERNAL APPS allow for deep links to external apps outside of the Capillary app the user is currently in. End users will be taken either directly to the downloaded app on their device or to the corresponding download page on their device’s app-downloading service.
To create an External App content-piece, navigate to the External App section under Content Publishing in the left-hand navigation menu, then click on the “+ Create External App” button at the top right. In the resulting popup window, name your external app and designate an author. This will bring you to the External App creation screen.
Note: This content-type does not have the typical content-readiness tabs. Instead, each requirement is housed on the static External App creation screen.
The following are suggested, but not required, inputs for publishing external app content:
Icon (512 x 512 px)
To update the icon, click on the “Update” button under “ICON.” In the resulting popup window, click the “Choose File” button, then select the icon image you want from your files, use the cropping tool to align your image appropriately, and click “Save Icon.” Your icon will now show where the grey camera icon was before.
Category Tags
The External App Category Tags is an optional feature, but it is recommended to add as many category tags as are relevant to help users find the external app content-piece. To add a category tag, click on the empty field in the Category Tags section of the External App creation screen. In the dropdown menu, click the checkbox next to each category you’d like to add. We recommend that you add at least one tag to the external app before publishing.
Note: You can also add an optional description to the external app in this section by typing in the description in the corresponding “Description” text box.
External app content requires the following inputs:
iOS and Google Play Links
To add external App Store URLs, simply type or paste the appropriate app links for the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
Linked Collections
To link the external app to one or more collections, click on the “Link” button in the Linked Collections section. In the resulting popup window, link the external app to as many collections as you’d like by clicking the blue chainlink icon to the right of the desired collections in the list.
Note: To unlink the external app from a previously linked collection, click the red unlink icon to the right of the collection you wish to remove it from.
When you have completed all of the required fields on the External App completion screen, the “Publish” button near the top right will turn green. When you are satisfied with your external app content-piece and ready to publish, click the “Publish” button.
