Books

BOOKS are the most media-rich of the content-types. Books are organized by chapters, with each allowing the embedding of various components that can be grouped, arranged, and nested.

To create book content, navigate to the Book section under Content Publishing in the lefthand navigation menu, then click on the “Create Book” button at the top right. In the resulting popup menu, name your book content and designate an author. This will bring you to the Details section of your book and allow you to start building your content.

In the Details section, you can add an icon that will function as the cover photo for the book. You can also add a description of the book’s contents. Tags can also be added before creating the content.

To begin creating the book, select Builder from the options in the top taskbar.

Note: This tutorial specifically refers to the Builder section of the Publishing Wizard. Detailed instructions on Details, Categories, Collection, and Publish tabs of the Publishing Wizard can be found here.

Creating a New Section

To create a new section, click “+ Create First Section” in the center (or the “+ Add Section” button near the bottom left) and name the section. Clicking the chevron to the left of the name of the section will display the contents within the section and allow you to add new components or preview the section’s content. Clicking the chevron again will collapse the section.

Creating a New Component

To add a new component to a section, make sure the section is open (chevron will be pointing down), and click the “+ New Component” button underneath the section’s name. This will open a popup menu that allows you to choose the type of component to create.

Below are the nine component-types possible within the book, divided into Information Display Components and Media Asset Components:

Information Display Components

Group

The group component is used solely for organizing and nesting content within a section. After selecting Group as a component-type, you’ll be required to name the group. To add components to the group, open the group by clicking the chevron to the left of the name of the group and click the “+ New Component” button. This will result in a popup menu that allows you to choose the type of component to create within that group.

Note: There’s no limit to the amount of groups that can be nested under each section.

List

The list component allows you to create a list of text-based content to be displayed. After choosing List in the component popup menu, the right side of the menu will display the List Items section, allowing you to add as many list items as you wish.

To add a new list item, click the “+ Add List Item” button in the List Details section. This will display a small text-editor box to type or paste your list item into. This text-editor box does not have the same text markup capabilities as the editor and card but does allow you to bold, italicize, and/or underline your text.

To remove a list item, simply click the red trashcan icon to the right of the list item to remove.

Note: Your list items can be rearranged easily by clicking on the hamburger menu (three solid lines) left of the text-editor box and dragging it up or down to its desired position.

Editor

The editor component consists of a simple WYSIWYG rich-text editor, which allows you to create text-based content. After choosing Editor in the component popup menu, the right side of the menu will display the text editor. This editor box allows you to type or paste in any text-based content and format it using the text markup buttons on top of the editor box.

Linkable Content

The Linkable Content component allows you to link to any published piece of content you have access to within the branch for which you are creating content. After choosing Linkable Content in the component popup menu, the right side of the menu will display the Linked Details section, allowing you to label the linked content and select the content to be linked.

First, label the linked content in the label text-editor box. Then, to link content within your book, click the “Select from Collection Content” button. The resulting popup window will display all of the published content within your branch that you have access to. Scroll to find the desired content, click on the content (this will display the content’s title, author, icon, and description), and click the “Use Selected Content” button at the bottom right. Any content selected will preview below, and additional items can be chosen by clicking the blue button that will now display as “Change Connected Content.”

Card

The card component is similar to the editor component in that it consists of a simple WYSIWYG rich-text editor, but the text within the card component will be displayed in a colored box. After choosing Card in the component popup menu, label the card (displays at the top) and then type or paste the text into the editor box (displays under the label) and format it however you’d like.

Below is an example of how the card component visually calls out the text entered in the label and text-editor box:

Rearranging the Order of Sections and Components

To rearrange sections, you must first collapse all sections by clicking the chevrons left of the section’s name. When all sections are collapsed, click on the rearrange icon (six squares in two columns) left of the section name and drag it up or down to its desired position. If a section is open, the rearrange icon turns into a lock, indicating that section positions are locked and cannot be rearranged until all sections are collapsed.

Rearranging Components

To rearrange components, you must first collapse all components within the same nested group by clicking the arrows left of the component name until the lock left of the component name turns into a rearrange icon (six squares). When the appropriate components are collapsed, click on rearrange icon and drag it up or down to its desired position.
